One-of-a-Kind Beauties . . .

Babbling Brook

“May brooks and trees and singing hills join in the chorus too,
and every gentle wind that blows, send happiness to you.”
~Irish Blessing

As women, aren’t we all a bit fond of the idea of having the only one of something?  Something that is unique, unusual, and undeniably desired by others?  Something that can’t be found anywhere else (except for your jewelry box, that is)?  If you’re thinking, “I don’t really care if someone else has the same necklace as me . . . ” then you’re kidding yourself.  There’s something magical about having something that is different!  You know it’s true!!!

Recently, Debbie, the Managing Director for the Lake Norman Chapter of the eWomen Network approached me with what she called “stones.”  She proceeded to hand over a little bag containing four different stones . . . all shiny, all different in shape and size, and all extremely beautiful.  She gave me free reign to create something unusual using one of her beloved “stones.”  YAY!!!!!  What fun it was to be creative and design something that would be hers and hers alone.  The finished product was unlike anything I had ever created before.  I had never worked with a loose stone before . . . a stone that didn’t have any drilled holes through which I could feed wire.  This time I had to expand my thoughts and ideas.  I taught myself how to do a basket weave with the wire to make a “cage” for the stone.  I loved every minute of this project . . . and I would like to do more!  Where am I going with this?  I’ll tell you!

If you are someone who ~
. . . has sea glass or loose stones (or even chandelier crystals)
. . . has vintage, heirloom jewelry that needs repurposing
. . . has a favorite color or a favorite gemstone
. . . is looking for a one-of-a-kind gift to give someone special
. . . is looking for something unique and different

I’m your gal!  I would be happy to create a custom piece of jewelry especially for you or someone special in your life.  Just give me a call (704) 293-5343 or e-mail me Leigh@paintedbeauty.com to chat!

I promise!  Check back soon!!!

It’s Been Awhile . . .

I know . . . the website is in dire need of some updating.  Rest assured, you won’t have to wait much longer.  Since deciding to keep my wholesale jewelry completely separate from my retail jewelry, I have really put designing jewelry for the website on the back burner.  Now, without further delay, I am working like a busy bee to produce some delightful new creations for all to see, love, and (hopefully) buy!  I’m having so much fun creating one-of-a-kind pieces and I hope you enjoy them too.  I’ll keep you posted, but please be sure to check the website often because you never know when something new and wonderful may appear . . . you wouldn’t want to miss out, would you???

Vegas, Baby!

Ranard and Leigh at ACRE 2008

I recently participated in the American Craft Retailers Expo (ACRE) in Las Vegas.  For me, it was a very big deal . . . the biggest deal of my career to date.  I must say that it feels absolutely AMAZING to know that I was able to conquer a show of this magnitude . . . of course, everyone measures success in a different way, and for me the show was a HUGE SUCCESS!

THE ARTISTS . . .
My favorite part of the show was meeting so many wonderful artists . . . I am profoundly grateful to have met each and every one of them.  As an artist, I often worry that others won’t be willing to share their experiences with me . . . you know, the fear of competition. . . but the artists I met at ACRE were beyond gracious.  When I think back to the day when I first found out my booth assignment, I immediately began to read about the artists who were assigned to the booths around me . . . I WAS SO NERVOUS!!!!!!  Now, I feel so incredibly silly.  Thank you, girls . . . Jill, Bonny, Mary, and DeeDee . . . the show wouldn’t have been the same without all of you!

BOOTH LAYOUT . . .
Before I left for the show, I read and read post after post on the Wholesale Crafts discussion boards.  The BIG DILEMMA:  if you have an inline booth, should your display tables be directly in the front of your booth for all to see?  OR, should your display tables be inside of your booth so buyers can walk inside as though they are walking into your “store”?  Hmmmm . . . I tried BOTH!  After the first day of the show, I quickly caught on that the buyers weren’t coming into my booth.  Just so you know, I had one table (4′ long) directly in the front of my booth and one table (6′ long) on the inside wall of my booth.  Buyers would walk up to the table in the front and look at the jewelry, but that’s it!  “No!  Stop!  WAIT!  THERE’S MORE TO SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” was what I felt like shouting down the aisle as I watched them walk away.  Day #2 was NOT going to be the same.  I rearranged (despite those claims that tables inside of the booth just wouldn’t work) and forged ahead!  WOW!  What a difference!!!  Not only did I have buyers coming into my booth, but I gave out catalogs and business cards left and right!  LESSON LEARNED:  don’t be afraid to experiment and try new things . . . if something isn’t working, make a change . . . it can’t hurt and it’s definitely worth a try!

ORDERS . . .
I’m pleased and proud to announce that Painted Beauty Jewelry has found a new home in Dallas, Texas . . . Carlyn Galerie to be exact (www.carlyngalerie.com).  Thank you to the mother-daughter team of Cindi and Wendy for placing an order with me . . . I truly appreciate it!

FINAL THOUGHTS . . .
Now that I’ve conquered ACRE I feel as though I can accomplish anything.
